Scalloped Potato and Ground Beef Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 1/1 lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried chili pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 5-6 russet potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese
  • Sauce
  • 2 (10 3/4 oz) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 3/4 cup light cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • fresh ground black pepper

Step 1


1. In a large skillet cook ground beef with onion, green bell pepper and chili flakes, drain fat.
2. Return to pan and add in garlic, seasoned salt and pepper and cook intil meat is lightly browned. May add 1-2 tablespoon bacon fat if desired. Set aside when done
3. Mix all sauce ingredients together in a bowl and set aside.
4. In a greased 13x9 inch baking dish, alternately layer potatoes, soup mixture, cheese then beef mixture on top, usually 3 layers.
5. Place baking dish on cookie sheet to advoid spills in oven
6. Bake covered 1 ½ hours at 350F
7. Uncover and continue baking 45 minutes or until potatoes are tender
8. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and bake until cheese is melted 4-5 minutes.
