Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups chopped pitted dates
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 3 eggs, well beaten
- 4 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
Details
Preparation
Step 1
Cook dates, sugar and water over low heat until thick.
Add nuts and cool.
Mix cookie dough and chill.
Divide mixture in 2 parts and roll each separately into rectangles a little less than 1/4" thick.
Spread each with date filling and roll like a jelly roll. Chill. Cut with sharp knife about 1/4".
Bake at 400° F for 10-20 minutes.
