Ingredients
- 3 lb. potatoes, 8 medium
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1/4 c. flour
- 3 c. milk
- 1 1/2 t. salt
- 1/8 t. pepper
- 3/4 c. chopped onion
- 1 1/2 lb. baked ham, cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes
- 1 T. butter, melted
- 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs

Step 1
Peel and cut potatoes into slices about 1/8 inch thick. Immediately place in cold water to cover. Melt 1/4 butter in medium saucepan, blend in flour. Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil; boil and stir 1 minute. Stir in salt and pepper. Drain potatoes thoroughly. Layer potatoes, onions, ham and white sauce alternately in greased 3-qt. casserole. Combine 1 T butter and bread crumbs; sprinkle over potatoes. Bake, covered, in a preheated 325 oven 45 minutes; uncover, bake until po0tatoes test done when pierced with fork. (35-45 minutes longer.
