Southern Devil's Food Cake

This devil's food chocolate cake is worth every bit of time making it
- GANACHE:
- 1 pound semisweet chocolate (preferably 58% cacao), finely chopped
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- CAKE:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened; more for the pans
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour; more for the pans
- 2 cups packed dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup unsweetened Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, preferably low fat, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line pans with cupcake liners
- Apple Cake:
- 1 box white cake mix
- 2 tsp. cinnamon or apple pie spice
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 C. butter, melted and cooled
- 1/4 C applesauce
- 1 C. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 C. peeled and chopped apple
- Caramel Buttercream:
- 1 C. butter, softened
- 2 Tbsp. caramel sauce
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3-4 C. powdered sugar
- Melted caramels for drizzling

1.Cream together the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar
- 1/2 c butter or margarine
- 1/2 c peanut butter
- 1 c brown sugar
