Step 1

Take seven navel oranges and use a vegetable peeler and remove peel. Use sharp small knife to remove white pith. Place the orange peels in a 2 qt pitcher or large glass bowl and pour 1 (750 ml) bottle vodka over orange peels and steep for 4 days. In a medium saucepan combine 2 1/2 c water and 1 1/2 c sugar, bring to boil and reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. REmove from heat and allow to cool for 20 minutes. Pour the syrup over the vodka mixture and cover and let stand at room temperature overnight. Strain through a mesh strainer. Discard the peels. Transfer to bottles and seal the bottles and refigerate until cold, at least four hours and up to one month. To add s special ingredient add 1/2 of a split vanilla bean. Only leave in there no more than 3 days, check each day to make sure not overpowering. Also can steep up to 7 days.
