Ingredients
- 1 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2-3/4 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 water
- 1/2 chopped nuts

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Cream butter, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Stir in flour and baking soda.
Shape into 2 rolls, wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate.
While dough is chilling, combine the dates, 1/2 cup sugar, water and nuts; cook until thick. Cool before using. When dough is thoroughly chilled, slice thin and put a tsp. or so of filling between two cookies.
Bake for 10-12 minutes. Watch closely for cookies to lightly brown.
