Beef Stew with Chestnuts

Prepared in a slow cooker, this savory stew is ideal for a winter supper by the fireplace
- 3 lb. boneless stewing beef, cut into 1-inch
- cubes
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 3 Tbs. olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, peeled and finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 2 carrots, peeled and finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 8 oz. new potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 1 cup steamed chestnuts
- 1 Tbs. tomato paste
- 1 1/2 cups beef stock
- 1 1/2 cups red wine

Blend all of the ingredients until smooth
- 3 Oreo cookies
- 3/4 ounce Chambord
- 3/4 ounce Creme de Noya
- 3/4 ounce amaretto
- 6 stemmed maraschino cherries
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 scoop crushed ice
Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup

Yield: About 5 servings
- 2 cups dry medium egg noodles
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts*
- 1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onion (1 medium)
- 1 1/3 cups chopped carrots (3 carrots)
- 1 1/3 cups chopped celery (3 stalks)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans low-sodium chicken broth
- 3 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1-2 cups grated cheddar cheese (optional)

- 6-oz jar of puréed beef baby food
- 6-oz jar of spinach and peas*
- 1 cup of wheat germ
- 2 cups rice flour
- It's okay to substitute other jar vegetables created for babies to eat.
- DO NOT select items with onions.
