5 Spice Glazed Salmon with Asparagus

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound skin-on salmon fillets, 2 in thick
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asian sesame oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Step 1

In a small bowl, whisk the honey, soy sauce, five-spice powder and garlic. Put the salmon skin-side down on a large plate and pour the honey mixture over it. Flip the fillets so they are skin side up. Let the fish marinate for 15 minutes at room temperature.
Position a rack 6 inches from the broiler and heat the broiler on high. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil.
In a bowl, toss the asparagus with the canola oil, lemon juice, sesame oil and salt and pepper. Arrange the salmon skin side down on half of the baking sheet. Broil the salmon for 8 min.
Remove from oven. Arrange the asparagus on the other half of the baking sheet. Brush the salmon with any remaining marinade.
Broil for another 6 to 8 min.
