Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 3/4 Milk, Scalded
  • 1/2 Cup Shortening
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 Pkg. Yeast (quick-rise) dissolved in 1/2 Cup Warm Water
  • 2 T. Orange Rind
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 Cup Orange Juice
  • 4 1/2 or 5 Cups Flour
  • 1 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Orange Rind
  • 3 T. Orange Juice

Preparation

Step 1

Mix first 4 ingredients when lukewarm add the next 4 ingredients. Add flour, mixing thoroughly until you have a soft dough. Cover and let stand at least 10 minutes. Then knead on lightly floured surface and put back in bowl. Cover and let rise until double in size. Divide dough into 3rds and roll 1/2 inch thick in rectangle. Cut strips 1/2 inch wide the long way of the rectangle. Tie in knots. Arrange on ungreased baking sheet. cover. Let rise until double. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Mix all frosting ingredients together in a bowl. While warm frost.
