Crock Pot Chicken - Basic Cranberry Recipe, With Variations
By Lsweetnell
This is a popular recipe that can have a multitude of variations as you can see from so many different recipes listed on Pinterest. The basic to this recipe is the onion soup mix and cranberry sauce and of course the Chicken; however, you could use pork chops pork loin, and meat balls too. Serve with mashed potatoes, or over rice, can change up the flavors, but the basics always remain the same. You can use chicken breast, chicken thighs, and even throw a whole chicken in frozen. Throw in the crockpot around lunch. It is seriously good. It is sweet and savery
what you add next as a bottled dressing is what makes the difference.
Ingredients
- 6 regular sized Chicken Breasts
- 1 Can of Cranberry Sauce (can use mixed berry)
- 1 packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix
- 8 oz of French Dressing or Russian, or Catalina, or just 1/3 cup orange juice. Also two jars of Heinz Chili sauce would be good and less sweet and a little more zingy.

Preparation
Step 1
Literally throw the frozen chicken in the crock pot, top with bottled dressing, Cranberry Sauce and Lipton Onion Soup Mix and then walk away! I generally cook it on High the first 20 minutes then turn to low for 6 hours. If your on your way out the door, just cook on low for six hours. The high for 20 minutes just gives the recipe a nice kick start.
You can use this basic recipe for almost any meat, maybe not liver. Why copy 20 recipes that basically say the same thing.
