Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 4 cups dewberries or blackberries
- 3/4 cup sugar, plus 1/2 cup for the berries
- 3/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- Juice and zest of 1 small lemon

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Place butter in a baking dish and melt in oven.
In a large bowl, toss dewberries or blackberries with 1/2 cup sugar.
In a separate bowl, mix 3/4 cup sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Add milk to dry ingredients and blend thoroughly. Pour into baking dish. Add fruit, but do not stir. Bake about 1 hour or until cooked. Cover baking dish with foil if top browns too quickly. Serve with cream or ice cream.
