Joyce's Black Walnut Pound Cake

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tsp. rum flavoring
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 c. all purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. black walnuts, chopped



Step 1

Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and beat until light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add flavorings and beat again. Add flour mixed with baking powder, alternating with milk, starting and ending with flour. Fold in walnuts. Pour into tube pan that has been greased and floured. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour 20 minutes or until a tooth pick comes clean. Cool in pan 5 minutes before turning out onto a rack.
