- 1 lemon, halved
- 1 4 1/2- to 5-pound chicken, cut into 10 pieces

- 2 cups sweetened tea
- 1/2 cup sugar Grated zest of 2 lemons
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice Kosher salt
- sprigs fresh thyme, leaves stripped and gently chopped Coating:
- Peanut or vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

- 2 (28-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
- 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 3 dozen frozen, cooked Italian-style meatballs, thawed
- 16 ounces spaghetti, cooked
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
