  • For the cake:
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1-3/4 c. all purpose flour
  • 3/4 c. natural unsweetened cocoa
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2 lg. eggs
  • 1 c. whole milk
  • 1/2 c. vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • For the filling:
  • 7 oz. sweetened shredded coconut (about 2 c.)
  • 4 oz. chopped almonds (about 1 c.)
  • 14 -oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 T vanilla
  • 1/4-1/2 c. heavy cream
  • For the topping:
  • 2-1/2 sticks unsalted butter (1-1/4 c.)
  • 10 oz. semisweet chocolate
  • 3 T light corn syrup

1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan or small stockpot with 6 cups water, and bring to a boil
