- Dough:
- 1 stick (115 g) butter, softened
- 1 cup (200 g) sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups (12.5 ounces/350 g) flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (40 g) unsweetened cocoa
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk
- Filling:
- 2 heaping tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 cups (480 ml) milk (I used 2%)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup (65) g sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- Pinch of salt
- 1 stick (115 g) butter, softened
