- 1 teaspoon table salt
- 10 tablespoons (1 stick plus 2 tablespoons) unsalted butter , softened but still cool
- 1 cup plus 7 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon finely grated zest plus 4 teaspoons juice from 1 to 2 lemons
- 4 large eggs
- 5 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups sour cream 8 ounces cream cheese , softened
Best Buttermilk Biscuits and Mushroom Gravy

- 6 1⁄2 cups flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar

- 1 1⁄2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, diced and chilled
- 3 cups buttermilk, chilled
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Mushroom Gravy:
- For the stock
- 2 1⁄2 pounds portobello or cremini mushrooms
- 1 large sweet onion, diced
- 2 ribs celery, diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 8 sprigs thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 2 quarts (8 cups) cold water
- 1 ⁄4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- Kosher salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 ⁄4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 ⁄4 cup Texas Pete or Crystal hot sauce
- 1 ⁄4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
- 1 ⁄4 cup chopped fresh thyme leaves

- 9 eggs
- 3 cups mil
- 1 ½ tsp. ground mustard

- 1 750-milliliter bottle of 190-proof Everclear or high-proof vodka if that's all you can get.
- About 1 cup of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum (two cups tastes pretty good also... just saying).
- 1 gallon apple cider
- 1 quart apple juice
- 3 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 10 cinnamon sticks
- 1 large stock pot
- 6 mason jars (quart-sized)
