Apple Crumb Coffee Cake

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2/3 c. Crisco Shortening
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1/2 t. cinnamon
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 t. baking soda
  • 1/2 t. nutmeg
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 apple, finely diced



Step 1

Prepare crumb mixture by mixing together the flower, brown sugar, shortening and salt.

Reserve 1/2 of the crumb mixture to sprinkle on top of cake.

To the crumb mixture add the baking powder, cinnamon, eggs, soda, nutmeg and buttermilk. Mix well.

Fold in finely chopped apple trying to bruise the apple. Spread mixture into a pan and sprinkle reserved crumb mixture on top.

Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
