Ingredients

    tbsp. olive oil

  • 1

    cup chopped onion

  • 1

    medium red bell pepper, chopped

  • 1

    medium green bell pepper, chopped

  • 2

    cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2

    tsp. powdered thyme

  • 1/2

    tsp. oregano

  • 1

    lb. italian roll sausage

  • 1

    lb. lean ground beef

  • 1

    egg

  • 1/2

    cup tomato sauce

  • 1/2

    cup beef broth

  • 1/3

    cup flavored or plain bread crumbs

  • 1/2

    tsp. salt

  • 1/4

    tsp. pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add onions, peppers, garlic, thyme, and oregano. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 3 minutes. Transfer to a mixing bowl. Crumble sausage in same skillet and cook just until no longer pink. Drain off drippings and place sausage on paper towels. Ass sausage to mixing bowl and cool 10-15 minutes. Add uncooked ground beef, egg, tomato sauce, beef broth, read crumbs, salt and pepper. Combine well. Press mixture into ungreased 9" x 5" x 3" loaf pan and bake 50-60 minutes. Pour off any accumulated oil prior to slicing. Refrigerate leftovers.
