Ingredients

  • For filling
  • 6 cups fresh or frozen dark red cherries 1 1/4 cups sugar Unsweetened, pitted 1/4 cup water
  • 4 tsp cornstarch
  • For topping
  • 1 cup all purpose flour 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 3 tbs margarine or butter 1 beaten egg
  • 3 tbs milk

Preparation

Step 1

Mix cherries with 1 1/4 cups sugar, 1/4 cup water and 4 tsp cornstarch. 15 minutes. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Keep warm. Let stand Mix flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder and cinnamon. Cut in margarine until mixture resembles course crumbs. In separate whisk together egg and milk. Add top flour mixture, stirring just to moisten.
Transfer filling to 8X8X2 baking dish. Drop topping into 6 mounds atop hot filling. Bake at 4000 for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick insert in topping comes out clean. Serve warm with ice cream.
