Baked Cinnamon Apple French Toast

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cubed
  • 6 medium apples, peeled,cored and cut into 1/4 slices
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 sliced thick bread lightly toasted
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • Honey butter-1 stick unsalted butter softened with a spoon mix in a pinch of salt and 1 tablespoon honey. Serve on the side heated.

Step 1

Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat until it starts to foam and then add apples. Cook until tender about 10 minutes. Off the heat stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Cut toast in half diagonally to make triangles; arrange over lapping in a buttered 9 by 13 pan.
Beat eggs in a bowl whisk in white sugar, milk and vanilla. Pour over toast and spoon apples over the top. Cover;refrigerate over night.
Heat oven to 350; bake French Toast uncovered until custard is set and does not shimmy when you shake it. 50 to 60 minutes. It will puff up and brown slightly, remove from oven let rest 10 minutes. Serve with syrup or honey butter.
