  • Cake:
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1-1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1-3/4 sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tbsp kirsch or cherry juice
  • 1-1/2 tbsp. vanilla
  • `1-1/4 cups hot water
  • Filling:
  • 2/3 cups dried cherries
  • 3 to 4 tbsp kirsch or cherry juice
  • 1 cup cherry preserves or jam, preferably Morello or sour Cherry.
  • Frosting:
  • 4 oz. high quality white chocolate, chopped
  • 1 (8oz) pkg. cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tbsp. kirsch, if desired
  • 3/4 to 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • Chocolate Coverd Cherries:
  • 123 large maraschino cherries with stems
  • 3 oz. bittersweet chocolate 60% cacao,
