Ingredients
- 1/2 medium head red cabbage
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon coarse salt
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 small bay leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Preparation
Step 1
Rinse and core cabbage. Cut in half. Save other half for later or use in a green salad. Using a chef’s knife, cut as thin as possible and then chop as desired.
Place the chopped cabbage in a large saucepan. Stir in the vinegar, sugar, salt, water, bay leaves and ground cloves. Bring to a boil, turn heat down, cover with lid and simmer for 2 hours until most of the liquid is gone. Serve immediately alongside the Danish Frikadeller.
Serve with: Solvang Danish Frikadeller
Variation: Double or triple the recipe.
