Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 c sugar
  • 1 c cornstarch
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 T lemon joice
  • 3 tsp lemon peel
  • 2-3 drops yellow food coloring
  • approx. 6 lbs of apples, peeled and sliced

Preparation

Step 1

Mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Stir in 10 cups water. Cook and stir til thick. Then add lemon juice and peel and food coloring and apples. Heat thoroughly. Pack into jars. Process hot water bath 20 minutes or steam canner approx 13 minutes.
1 qt makes a 9 inch pie
