Use your slow cooker to make these Italian-style veal shanks

- 4 veal shank cross cuts (2 pounds) or 1-1/2 pounds boneless beef short ribs

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Combine the potatoes, celery, onion, ham and water in a stockpot
- 3 1/2 cups peeled and diced potatoes
- 1/3 cup diced celery
- 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
- 3/4 cup diced cooked ham
- 3 1/4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon ground white or black pepper, or to taste

French Onion Soup

- 6 large yellow onions
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, plus extra for brushing
- One 14-ounce can chicken broth
- One 10.5-ounce can beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Marsala or red wine (optional)
- Four to six 1-inch-thick slices French bread
