Perfect Cornbread


This recipe comes from my old Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook and has been perfect every time for years!

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil or shortening, melted.



Step 1

Preheat oven 425 degrees:

Stir together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add eggs, milk and oil or melted shortening. Beat just till smooth (do not overbeat). Turn into a greased 9X9 inch baking pan, I use my iron skillet. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 20 minutes.
