Ingredients
- 3/4 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cup sifted all purpose flour

Preparation
Step 1
Combine nuts, dates, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the shortening and boiling water. Allow this mixture to stand for 15 minutes. Stir to blend. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, add the vanilla, stir in the sugar and the sifted flour. Add to the date mixture. Do not over mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
