  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 10-oz jar maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Add soda, salt, and vanilla. Mix well. Alternately add buttermilk and flour to creamed mixture, mixing only enough to hold ingredients together. Fold in cherries and nuts. Turn batter into greased and floured 9x5 loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes or until tested done. Cool before slicing.
