Ingredients

  • 1 – 14.5 oz can pitted red tart cherries in water, drained

  • 3 ½ cups cubed, peeled Braeburn apple (about 3 large apples)

  • ¼ c granulated sugar

  • ¾ c all purpose flour

  • 1 ¼ tsp baking powder

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 3 TB butter or margarine, melted

  • 2/3 c sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ tsp vanilla

  • ¼ tsp almond extract

  • 1 tsp powdered sugar (optional)

Directions

Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl; stir gently. Spoon into 9 inch square pan. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl; set aside. Combine butter and next 4 ingredients in a large bowl; stir well. Add flour mixture and stir well. Pour batter over fruit. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until golden and wooded pick inserted in center comes out clean. Sprinkle powdered sugar over cobbler before serving if desired. Serve warm. Yield: 9 servings (1/2 cup each) 216 calories 5.2 fat 1.9 g fiber
