Ingredients

  • 1

Cup Margarine or Butter (I use butter)

  • 1

    Cup Powdered Sugar

  • 1/2

    tsp. Almond Extract

  • 2

tsp. Maraschino Cherry Juice (used from the jar of cherries)

  • Few Drops of Red Food Coloring

  • 2 1/4

    Cups Flour

  • 1/2

    tsp. Salt

  • 1/2

Cup Maraschino Cherries, drained & chopped

  • 48

    Chocolate Kisses, unwrapped & chilled

Directions

Heat oven to 350°. In large mixing bowl combine margarine/butter, powdered sugar, cherry juice, almond extract and food coloring, blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off. Stir in flour and salt. Add cherries, mix well. Form dough into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly brown around edges. Immediately top each cookie with chocolate kiss, then remove from cookie sheet. *I usually chill the dough some, for easier handling. Sometimes I prepare all the different types of cookie dough the day before. Chill/refrigerate. Then, save all my baking for the following day.
