Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tsp grated orange rind
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup cranberries, coarsely chopped

Step 1
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse corn meal.
Combine orange juice, rind, and egg. Pour into dry ingredients, mixing just enough to dampen. Carefully fold in chopped nuts and cranberries.
Pour into greased loaf pan. Spread corners and sides slightly higher than center. Bake at 350° for 1 hour, or until crust is golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pan, cool on wire rack. Wrap and store overnight for easy slicing.
