Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. butter, cold
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 2 c. whole blackberries
  • 1 c. sugar plus 2 T.
  • 1 c. water
  • can add 1 tsp. vanilla or almond extract to simple syrup

Preparation

Step 1

Prepare a 10" pan by melting 1/2 c. butter & setting aside to cool. To make simple syrup, heat 1 c. sugar & 1 c. water til sugar melts; let cool.

Make dough by cutting 1/2 c. butter into the flour, baking powder & salt. Add milk & stir til dough forms a ball. Turn out onto floured surface; roll out to 1/4" thick circle. Spread berries over dough; roll up jelly roll style. Cut into 1" think slices. Carefully place in pan over melted butter. Pour simple syrup carefully around slices. Bake at 350° for 1 hour & 15 minutes. Before removing from oven, sprinkle top with 2 T. sugar.
