Ingredients
- 4 lb apples, any kind; peeled, with stems and core removed, and cut into quarters.
- 2 C water or cider vinegar (either is fine for cooking the apples)
- 1/2 C sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp Allspice
- Grated lemon rind (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
Cook apple quarters slowly until soft in 2 cups water or cider vinegar.
Strain fruit pulp to remove any remaining seeds or peel.
Add to each cup of pulp:
1/2 C sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp cloves, 1/2 tsp allspice, grated lemon rind (optional).
Cook until the apple butter sheets from a spoon.
Put in sterilized jars and seal with paraffin.
