    cup sugar, divided

    cup butter or margarine

    cups sliced, peeled apples

    tablespoons lemon juice

    egg, lightly beaten

  • cup evaporated milk

    tespoon vanilla

    cup chopped nuts

    cups coconut


Heat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour, salt and 1/3 cup sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs; press into bottom of a greased 9 x 13 pan. Arrange apple slices on top of crumbs; sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine 1/3 cup sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Bake 20 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine remaining sugar with remaining ingredients. Spoon over baked apples and bake for another 20 minutes or unil golden brown. Cut into squares while still warm.
