Onion Gratin with Country Ham

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups milk
- 2 lb large onions peeled
- 1 15 oz can cannellini beans or great northern beans rinsed and drained
- 6 oz cooked ham
- 1/2 cup provolone shredded

Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350. In a large sauce pan melt butter over medium heat. Stir in four, salt and pepper. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until light brown. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
2. Slice onions 1/2" thick. Separate into rings. Stir onions, ham and beans into saucepan. Transfer to a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Place on a baking sheet in case of boil over.
3. Bake covered for 1/2 hour. Uncover and sprinkle with cheese. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes more or until onions are tender and top is golden. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
