Ingredients

  • CRUST:

  • 5

    c. flour

  • 2

    c. plus 2 TB shortening

  • 1

    tsp salt

  • 1

    pg yeast dissolved in 1 c. warm milk

  • 2

    beaten eggs

  • 3/4

    c.evaporated milk

  • FILLING:

  • 18

    MED. APPLES (OR you can use canned blueberries or cherries)

  • 1 1/2

    c. sugar

  • 1

    tsp flour and tapioca

  • Cinnamon

  • Cook all ingredients then refrigerate overnight

Directions

CRUST: Mix all ingredients together as you would for a pie crust, then let rest 10 minutes Add:yeast & milk, eggs, evaporated milk and mix thoroughly and refrigerate overnight. TURNOVERS: Roll out the crust and cut turnovers out with an empty 2 lb. coffee can. Spoon the filling onto the turnovers in a half circle, then fold turnovers and press the edges together to seal. Freeze on cookie sheets and put in plastic gabs or containers when frozen. Bake at 375 degrees until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Serve warm or cold. Makes 25 to 30. May serve with cinnamon topping made with red cinnamon candies and topped with vanilla ice cream
