Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and cut into
  • 1/2-inch rings
  • Salad oil
  • Confectioners' sugar or maple syrup

Preparation

Step 1

In medium bowl, combine first 5 ingredients. In small bowl, beat eggs with milk; add to flour mixture and beat well.

In 4-quart saucepan, heat 2 inches oil to 375°F. Dip apple slices into batter. Fry a few at a time until golden, turning once. Drain on paper towels.

Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar or serve with syrup.
