Ingredients

  • Roll Dough:

  • 1

    Tbsp. yeast

  • 1/4

    c. lukewarm water

  • 4

    c. flour

  • 1/4

    c. sugar

  • 1/4

    c. butter, softened

  • 1/2

    c. scalded milk

  • 1

    egg, beaten

  • 1 1/2

    tsp. salt

  • 1/2

    c. hot water

  • Let yeast sit in warm water until dissolved. Add 2 c. four, then gradually add remaining ingredients.

  • Raise until double in bulk (about 1 hour)

  • Filling:

  • 1/4

    c. butter

  • 1

    c. diced onions

  • 1

    Tbsp. Parmesan cheese

  • 1

    Tbsp. sesame or poppy seeds

  • 1

    tsp. garlic

  • 1

    tsp. paprika

Directions

Cook all on medium heat in frying pan until onions are clear but not brown. Let cool while bread finishes rising. Divide dough into three balls and roll into long 1 to 3 inch-wide strips of equal length. Put filling down each section, fold over and pinch tight. Braid. Let rise about 1/2 hour. Brush with beaten egg whites. Sprinkle with additional sesame or poppy seeds. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Don't overcook. So good served warm!!
