Ingredients

  • 8 granny smith and or macintosh apples, peeled and thiny sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • salt
  • 1 cup fat free milk
  • Orange sugar for garnish optional

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine apples, 1/4 cup sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg in large bowl, toss to coat. Let stand 20 minutes.
Put butter in 9 x 13 baking dish. Put dish in oven, melt butter, 23 minutes
Combine remaining 3/4 cup sugar, all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt in medium bowl. Whisk in milk. Remove baking dish from oven add batter. Top with apple mixture, gently pressing top with spatula to sumerge some apples into batter. Bake 20 minutes. Rotate baking dish and bake until top is golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. If making ahead, let cobbler cool completel on rack. Cover and chill up to 1 day. Reheat at 300 degrees until warm 25 to 30 minutes.
