  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • dash of salt
  • 6 cups thinly sliced tart apples (about 6 apples)
  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 8 cups thinly sliced tart apples (about 8 apples)

Preparation

Step 1

Prepare pastry and line a pie dish.

Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and salt.
Peel and slice apples (small), stir into mixture immediately (will prevent browning)

Turn into pastry-lined pie pan, dot with butter. Cover with top crust, which has slits cut in it, seal and flute. Cover edge with 2 to 3 inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning, remove foil last 15 minutes of baking.

or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust.
