Ingredients

  • 5 boxes frozen french cut green beans, cooked and drained
  • 1 lb fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 T. soy sauce
  • 1/2 lb velvetta cheese, cubed
  • 1 can water chestnuts, thinly sliced
  • 1 (3 1/2 oz) pkg. slivered almonds

Preparation

Step 1

Reserve 12 large nice mushrooms for the top.

In a large skillet saute onion and mushrooms in butter for 10 minutes. Stir in flour and cook for 5 minutes. Add half and half and milk, stir till thick. Add salt, pepper, soy sauce and velvetta. Stir till cheese is melted and pour over drained beans in baking dish.

Add water chestnuts and almonds, reserving 1/3 of the almonds for the top. Stir beans and sauce mixture together. Pour into greased large casserole pan. Wipe excess suace from upper sides of dish. Arrange the 12 whole mushrooms on top and sprinkle with reserved almonds.

Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

The flavor is enhanced by refrigerating after baking, then reheating before serving. This does freeze well
