Sausage Bread Dressing (skinny)

  • 4 c seasoned stuffing cubes
  • 1 c corn bread stuffing mix
  • 1/2 lb bulk Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large tart apple, peeled and chopped
  • 1 1/3 c sliced fresh shitake mushrooms
  • 1 1/4 c sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 celery rib, chopped
  • 1/8 t salt
  • 1/8 t pepper
  • 3 T butter
  • 1 can chicken broth
  • 1 c pecan halves
  • 1/2 c minced fresh parsley
  • 1 T fresh sage or 1 t dried sage

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine stuffing cubes and stuffing mix. set aside. In a large skillet, cook the sausage, onion, apple, mushrooms, celery, salt and pepper in butter over med heat until sausage is done. Add to sstuffing mixture. Stir in the broth, pecans, parsley and sage; toss to coat.

Transfer to a greased 3 qt baking dish. Cover and bake at 325 for 30 min. Uncover; bake another 10 min longer or until lightly browned.
