Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 4-5 pound (bone in) pot roast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 sliced onion
  • 1-2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons Kitchen Bouquet Browning & Seasoning Sauce (Optional)

Step 1

In hot fat in dutch oven or heavy pot, brown meat well on all sides. turning it as it browns and sprinkling it with some salt & pepper. This may take 15-20 minutes.

Add water, onion, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce.
Cover & bake in 325 degrees oven for 2 hours, turning occasionally.

Potatoes and carrots may be added after 2 hours. Stir all ingredients in drippings. Cook an additional hour, turning occasionally to keep all ingredients covered in juices. Continue cooking for an additional hour or until potatoes & carrots are done and meat is fork tender.


When done, remove meat (and vegetables) to platter and make gravy as follows: Skim fat from pot. Thicken drippings with flour thickened water to make a rich gravy. Kitchen Bouquet may be added at this time to add a nice flavor.
