Grilled Steak With Charred Tomato Salsa

Ingredients

  • 1 Boneless Sirloin Steak ( 11/4-in. thick )
  • 3/4 tsp. Salt, divided
  • 1/4 tsp. Freshly Ground Black Pepper, divided
  • 2 Lg. Tomatoes, cored, cut in half horizontally & seeded
  • 1/2 C. Red Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. Basil-Flavored Olive Oil
  • 6 Basil Leaves, thinly sliced

Step 1

Lightly spray steak with cooking spray & sprinkle with 1/2 tsp. of the salt & 1/8 tsp. of the pepper. Place tomato halves, cut sides down, on paper towels. Let steak & tomatoes stand at room temp. for 20-30-min. before grilling. With the lid closed, grill tomato halves, cut sides down, over direct high heat for 3-5 min. Turn tomato halves over & grill 1 min. or till skins are blackened. Remove from grill & cool 5 min. Cut the tomato halves into 1-in. pieces. Combine tomato pieces, onion, vinegar, oil, the remaining 1/4 tsp. of salt, the remaining 1/8 tsp. of pepper & basil. With the lid closed, grill steak over direct high heat till cooked to desired doneness, 8-10 min. for med-rare, turning once. Let stand 5 min. Cut steak into thin slices. Serve with tomato salsa.
