Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 1 cup of buttermilk with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda whipped in it
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cvup milk
  • 2 lemons, peel one; grate one

Preparation

Step 1

Beat sugar and butter together, then beat in buttermilk with soda and then flour. Beat in one egg at a time. Pour into greased cake pans. Bake at 350 for approximately 15-20 minutes.

Filling:

½ stick butter; 2 cups sugar; 1 cup milk, cook until syrupy.

2 lemons: Peel one; grate one

Beat in yolks of 2 eggs into lemon. Beat hot filling into egg and lemon. Beat together; pour over cake after it has cooled.

OR

1 cup milk; 2 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon corn starch. Beat sugar and corn starch. Add milk; add ½ stick butter and cook till syrupy. Beat some of this hot filling into 2 grated lemons and 2 egg yolks. Then pour all in. Cool and frost cake.
