- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced thickly
- 1/2 pound fresh raspberries (just over 1 cup of berries)
- vanilla bean scraped of its seeds, pod reserved
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- juice of 1 lemon

- 4 egg yolks
- 4 ounces chopped unsweetened chocolate
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream (liquid cream)
- 1 tablespoon granulated white sugar
- 1 chocolate bar (such as Hersheys)

Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare your crust and chill it if necessary before rolling it out
- Crust for single crust pie:
- 1/2 Cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 1-3/4 Cups sugar
- 3 TB. all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 Cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. PURE VANILLA EXTRACT
- 1/4-1/2 tsp. GROUND NUTMEG
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust (see below for our favorite recipe)
- 1/2 Cup butter (1 stick)
- 1 Cup flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 2-4 TB. milk
