I tried many online recipes and none really came close to the spiciness of the original A&P variety
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 3/4 cups brown sugar
- 3/4 white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons allspice
- 2 teaspoons ground cloves
- 1 teaspoons ginger
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups raisins, soaked in warm water until plump and drained
- 3/4 cup walnuts (optional)
