Heat oven to 375 degrees Beat together margarine and sugar until fluffy
- 1 1/4 cup margarine
- 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

- 1 teasp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teasp. baking soda
- 1 teasp salt
- 1 teasp cinnamon
- 1/4 teasp nutmeg

- 1 1/4 cups boiling water
- Meringue:
- 4 large fresh egg whites, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar*
- Cake crumbs, cake donut crumbs or bread crumbs (optional)
