  • 1 1/4 cups (5 ounces) shredded Gruyere or Swiss cheese
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • Garnishes: sweet red pepper strips, shrimp, fresh basil leaves
  • Italian Tomato Sauce
  • FOR ITALIAN TOMATO SAUCE:
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 (14-ounce) can tomatoes, drained and chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 bay leaf

  • (2) In a saucepan, bring the following to a boil:
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 t. soda
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • (1) Sift together and set aside.
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup vegetable cooking oil
  • 4 T. cocoa
  • Add to dry ingredients mixing well. Set aside.
  • (3) Mix: 1/2 c. uttermilk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla. Add to chocolate batter.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes or longer in greased/ floured pan.
