- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, divided
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1. Allow butter and egg whites to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 egg whites
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
- 1/3 cup maraschino cherry juice
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 12 maraschino cherries, halved

- 2 cups plus 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup dark brown muscavado sugar
- 1/3 cup light brown muscavado sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- One 5-ounce block semisweet chocolate, chopped into chunks, such as Callebaut
- One 5-ounce block milk chocolate, chopped into chunks, such as Callebaut
