- 1 cup warm water (110-115 degrees F)
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (see additional notes for a 100% whole wheat version)
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons instant active dry yeast (active dry yeast will work also; get more info on active vs. instant active dry yeast here!)

- 3/4 pound plum tomatoes, peeled and coarsely chopped

- 1 -poun d package split peas, rinsed in warm water and drained
- 3 tablespoons barley
- 1 1/2 cups chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 or 2 medium potatoes, optional
- 16 -ounc e can diced tomatoes, add juice and all
